The Fart Heard Round the World

The reviews are in for M. Night Shyamalan's casually-anticipated The Last Airbender, which opens in theaters this Friday.

Please remember to keep an open mind as you read the following critical excerpts, courtesy of RottenTomatoes.com, and judge for yourself whether or not you should see it this weekend:
The picture drags along the ground like a fresh corpse, treating its own myth as homework and the participants as burdens, while feeling around a fantastically wasted world of weathered environments and ornate set design.
-Brian Orndorf, brianorndorf.com
Where to start with this one? How about this: If any movie ever warranted a class-action lawsuit against the filmmakers, it’s The Last Airbender.
-Keith Phipps, AV Club
More after the jump...

The Last Airbender is an agonizing experience in every category I can think of and others still waiting to be invented.

-Roger Ebert, Chicago Sun-Times

Slavishly amateurish with no heart. Cold, not engaging, and dull. Bad writing and film school-level directing. What happened to an exciting story?
-Victoria Alexander, FilmsInReview.com

The movie has been criticized for racially inappropriate casting, but that’s the least of its problems. The acting is laughable, the effects are phony, the editing is addled and the dialogue is disastrous.
-Joe Williams, St.Louis Post-Dispatch
This colossal folly, the fiasco of the summer of 2010 — gives us all a ringside seat at the sight of Mr. “I See Dead People’s” career gurgling down the drain.
-Roger Moore, Orlando Sentinel
Let's just be honest: M. Night Shyamalan is an idiot.

-Matt Pais, Metromix.com
Get your tickets now, folks! You know the critics are always wrong--they're just too arrogant to admit they like what regular folk eat up.

Wow! Was it really that bad? Well, that's to be expected from that "filmmaker".
