The Bible: The First Corporation?

Much like the corporation is a faceless legal entity that conveniently takes all the blame for the actions of the greedy, shady humans that run it, the Bible readily absorbs blame whenever anyone wants to be an asshole.

This really hit home today when I watched the first thirty seconds of the following video:

He might as well have opened by saying: "I don't want to hate homosexuality, but the Bible says it's a sin! So let's stone those fuckers to death!"

Let's get one thing straight here: the Bible is not the word of God. It was written by people--people who lived a long time ago, in a land far, far away, people who could be right or wrong or misinterpreted or racist or manipulative. If you want to hate gay people, that is fine--but take ownership of that irrational hate. Don't blame "the word of God" and act like you don't have a choice in the matter.

Corporations are also run by people--people who make the decisions to dump toxic waste in the river, commit fraud, conspire to manipulate prices, and should have to personally pay the price for what they did far more often than they ever do. If the CEO of a company "didn't know what was going on" or "never personally looked into the finances of the deal" then he should not have accepted the job of CEO. It should be a position with equal risk and reward, where responsibility is taken.

I think it's high time religious haters and corporate pricks are taken to task for their beliefs and practices--I'm tired of all the bullshit excuses.
